Layered Assignments
What is a layered assignment?
For each Layered Assessment (Unit), please use a new folder to keep all of your assignmnents. You will need 3, 3- pronged folders... I'd suggest a 3 different colors. And paper.
The layered assignments are designed to challenge you to work on what you need to improve on the most. You will have 5 areas that you will focus on in order to complete the Layer C: grammar, vocabulary, creativity, speaking and listening. Each activity is worth 5 points and the highest grade you can get is a D if you did nothing else. Layer B is worth 2 grades: the first grade is the work you put into the presentation in order to give yourself a higher grade on this layered assignment and the second grade is a speaking grade. Layer B's task is to research and present a 2-3 minute presentation in Spanish to a small audience who must ask you questions about your topic. Layer A is also worth 2 grades: the first is the research (reading and summarizing) and persuasive essay and the second grade is a speaking grade, how you debate, which requires listening and responding! Students will choose one of three topics that interests them the most to research, form an opinion and learn how to debate in each unit! The first one is the hardest because they don't know yet they can actually do this!
These layered assignments are considered major assessments! This is when we must also layer what we learned into the next unit. For example, you must continue to use the present tenses in the next unit and in the final unit, you must be able to demonstrate that you know how to continue using the past and present tenses while focusing on the future.
